Tokenized stocks turn exposure to real-world equities into Solana SPL tokens — backed 1:1 by shares held in custody, tradable 24/7, in fractions, straight from a wallet. This guide maps how the category works, following the model set by xStocks, the tokenized US stock product line from Backed Finance.

How it works, in short

Real shares sit with a custodian. Tokens are minted against them on Solana, one token per share, and trade wherever Solana trades — nights, weekends, holidays included.

STEP 01

Shares in custody

The issuer buys the underlying stock and holds it with a regulated custodian.

STEP 02

Minted 1:1 on Solana

An SPL token is issued for each share held — the token tracks the share, backed by it.

STEP 03

Trade 24/7

Tokens move on exchanges and Solana DEXs around the clock, in fractions of a share.

STEP 04

Terms apply

Dividends are handled per the issuance terms. Voting rights generally do not come with the token.

Why the format matters

Six properties make stock tokens different from a brokerage account — and different from owning the share itself.

1:1 custody backing

Each token is backed by one real share held in custody — the model the category leader launched with.

Always-open markets

On-chain markets do not close at 4pm. Stock tokens trade 24/7, including weekends and holidays.

Fractional by default

Tokens divide like any SPL asset, so exposure can start with a fraction of one share.

Self-custody ready

Hold stock tokens in a standard Solana wallet and move them peer-to-peer like any other token.

100+ tickers

The leader launched on Solana on June 30, 2025 with around 60 tickers and has since grown past 100 — reported by xStocks as of October 2026.

Composable on-chain

As SPL tokens, they plug into Solana DeFi — liquidity pools, quote pairs and automated strategies.

The category leader, in brief

This site follows the structure and selling points of the product line that defined the category — described here in our own words.

xStocks, by Backed Finance

xStocks is Backed Finance's line of tokenized US stocks and ETFs, issued as Solana SPL tokens. Each carries the underlying ticker plus an “x” — AAPLx, NVDAx, TSLAx, SPYx — and is backed 1:1 by the real share held in custody.

Trading runs 24/7 through venues that list the line — reported among them Kraken, Bybit and Gate, alongside Solana DEXs. Access is restricted: the line is not offered to users in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada or Australia.

One distinction runs through everything on this site: a stock token is a tokenized instrument that tracks a share. It is not the share itself, and it generally carries no voting rights.

How tokenized stocks work

A stock token is a two-sided structure: a real share on one side, held by a custodian — and a Solana token on the other, tracking it one-for-one. Here is the full lifecycle, and the line between holding a token and holding a share.

STEP 01

The issuer buys the stock

A tokenized stock program starts off-chain. The issuer — for the category leader, Backed Finance — acquires the underlying US share or ETF unit and places it with a custodian, where it is held as the backing reserve for the tokens to be issued.

STEP 02

Tokens are minted 1:1

Against each share in custody, one SPL token is minted on Solana. Supply and reserves are designed to move together: more shares deposited, more tokens issued; tokens redeemed, shares released. The token's name is the familiar ticker plus an “x” — NVDAx for NVIDIA, SPYx for the S&P 500 ETF.

STEP 03

The price tracks the share

Market makers and arbitrage between the token and the underlying keep the token's price aligned with the share it tracks. When the stock market is closed, the token keeps trading — its price then reflects what the market expects the share to be worth when trading reopens.

STEP 04

Trading never closes

Because the token lives on Solana, it trades wherever Solana trades: centralized exchanges that list the line, and decentralized exchanges on-chain. Hours are 24/7, settlement is on-chain, and positions can be held in a self-custody wallet or divided into fractions of a share.

STEP 05

Corporate actions follow the terms

Dividends and splits are handled according to each product's issuance terms — for example by adjusting balances or value in line with the underlying event. The exact treatment is defined by the issuer's documentation, and it is one of the first things to read before holding any stock token.

STEP 06

Redemption closes the loop

Eligible holders can redeem tokens back through the issuer's process, returning the token against the value of the underlying share. Redemption is what anchors the 1:1 claim: the token is a claim on a custodied share, not a free-floating bet on a ticker symbol.

What you hold — and what you don't

A stock token is not the share itself. Holding one gives you tokenized exposure to a share held in custody, under the issuer's terms. It does not make you a registered shareholder of the company.

Stock tokens generally carry no voting rights. Dividends, when they apply, are passed through as the issuance terms describe — not as a direct shareholder distribution. Rights, protections and tax treatment differ from direct share ownership and vary by jurisdiction.

Why issuers chose Solana

The leading line was issued natively as SPL tokens rather than wrapped later. That choice is about the rails:

  • Fast, low-cost transfers make fractional positions practical.
  • Tokens settle on-chain at any hour, not just market hours.
  • SPL is the native standard, so wallets, DEXs and DeFi protocols read the asset directly.

Where the model can strain

An honest walkthrough includes the seams:

  • Outside US market hours, liquidity can be thinner and prices can drift from the last close.
  • The 1:1 claim depends on the issuer and custodian — counterparty quality is the product.
  • Eligibility is restricted by jurisdiction, and terms can change; the issuer's documents govern.

Markets & tickers

Stock tokens trade in two places at once: on centralized exchanges that list the line, and on-chain across Solana DEXs. One naming rule identifies them everywhere — the ticker, plus an “x”.

Where they trade

For the leading xStocks line, reported venues include the centralized exchanges Kraken, Bybit and Gate, alongside Solana-native decentralized exchanges where the tokens trade against stablecoins and SOL.

On-chain, stock tokens also show up inside Solana DeFi — including as quote assets in Meteora liquidity pools, where other tokens are priced and traded against them.

Who can access them

Access is the first filter, before any ticker. The xStocks line is not available to users in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada or Australia, and other jurisdictions may be restricted under each venue's and issuer's terms.

Consistent with that, this site does not market stock tokens to US users. If a venue asks where you live, it is not a formality — eligibility determines whether you can hold the product at all.

Pools are resolved at load time through the API’s own search — the highest-liquidity Solana pool per token is used. Pool addresses will be listed here once data loads.

Four examples from a line that launched on Solana on June 30, 2025 with roughly 60 tickers and counts 100+ as of October 2026 (reported, per xStocks). The “x” suffix is the marker of the tokenized version — AAPL is the share; AAPLx is the token. Prices above are live pool prices, fetched when this page loaded — they are market data from public APIs, not quotes from this site.

How to buy — the steps

Deliberately text-only: this concept site sells nothing and connects no wallet. The steps below are the general route described in ecosystem reporting.

STEP 01

Check your eligibility first

Confirm stock tokens are offered where you live. The leading line excludes the US, UK, Canada and Australia, and each venue applies its own list on top.

STEP 02

Pick a venue that lists them

Choose between a centralized exchange that lists the line (reported: Kraken, Bybit, Gate) or a Solana DEX for on-chain trading.

STEP 03

Fund the account or wallet

Exchanges take standard deposits. For a DEX route, you need a Solana wallet funded with the quote asset the pool uses.

STEP 04

Search the “x” ticker

Look up the tokenized symbol — AAPLx, NVDAx, TSLAx, SPYx — and verify you have the genuine tokenized line, not a copycat token using a similar name.

STEP 05

Read the issuance terms

Before buying, check how dividends are handled, what redemption looks like, and what rights the token does and does not carry. The terms are the product.

STEP 06

Size it like an experiment

Liquidity outside market hours can be thin and prices can gap at the reopen. Start small, and never treat a stock token as identical to holding the share.

Regulation & holder rights

Tokenized stocks sit between two rulebooks — securities law on one side, crypto market structure on the other. This page keeps to what is established and labels what is not.

Eligibility is geographic

The leading tokenized stock line is distributed outside the United States and is not offered to users in the US, UK, Canada or Australia. That is an issuer-level restriction, applied before any exchange's own onboarding rules.

This site follows the same line: nothing here is an offer of stock tokens to US users, and nothing here is investment advice.

Rights are narrower than a share

  • Voting: stock tokens generally carry no voting rights in the underlying company.
  • Dividends: handled according to each product's issuance terms — read them per ticker.
  • Ownership: the holder owns a token backed by a custodied share, not the share on the company's register.
  • Redemption: available to eligible holders through the issuer's process, under its terms.

The custody question

The 1:1 backing claim rests on the issuer actually holding the shares and on the custodian safeguarding them. That makes issuer transparency — reserve reporting, custodian identity, redemption history — a regulatory topic, not just a marketing one.

If a tokenized stock product cannot say who holds the shares and how backing is verified, the “1:1” is a slogan, not a structure.

A note on the September SEC reporting

September reporting described a five-year conditional SEC exemption touching tokenized securities markets. Its exact scope has not been verified for this page, so it is flagged here as context only — nothing on this site relies on it, and it changes nothing about the eligibility rules above.

Risk notes, without the fine-print voice

  • Market risk: a stock token follows a real stock — it can fall exactly as fast as the share does.
  • Off-hours risk: 24/7 trading includes thin overnight and weekend books; prices can sit away from the underlying's last close and snap back at the reopen.
  • Counterparty risk: backing depends on the issuer and custodian performing as described.
  • Regulatory risk: tokenized securities rules are still being written in most jurisdictions; availability can change.
  • Copycat risk: anyone can mint a token with a familiar ticker. Verify the issuer and the mint before trading any “x” token.

Eligibility and rights summarized from issuer and ecosystem reporting compiled October 2026. This page is an explainer, not legal advice and not the issuer's terms — the issuer's documentation governs.

Use cases

What stock tokens are actually used for on Solana — from plain after-hours access to the composable, agent-driven scenarios ecosystem reporting has started to describe.

Trading outside market hours

News does not wait for the opening bell. A holder in an eligible region can react to earnings or macro events at 2am on a Sunday, in size as small as a fraction of a share — the headline use case since launch.

Fractional, wallet-native exposure

High-priced shares become divisible to the cent and live next to the rest of a Solana portfolio — no separate brokerage account, no whole-share minimums.

A quote asset inside DeFi

On Meteora, stock tokens are used as quote assets — the thing other tokens are priced against in a pool. That puts equity exposure inside Solana's liquidity plumbing, not just on an order book.

One wallet for stocks and crypto

Because the token is self-custodiable, equity exposure, stablecoins and crypto positions sit in a single wallet and can be rebalanced in one place, at any hour.

AI portfolio rebalancing — reported scenario

Ecosystem reporting describes automated agents rebalancing portfolios that include stock tokens — possible because the assets are programmable and markets never close. Presented here as a reported scenario, not a service this site offers.

Buying inside a chat — reported scenario

Reporting on Solana's consumer apps describes purchasing stock tokens from within chat interfaces — the wallet disappears into a conversation. Again: a reported scenario from the ecosystem, described here without embellishment.

Keep the categories straight

The first four cases are structural — they follow from the token format itself. The last two are scenarios described in ecosystem reporting; they are included because they show where the Solana angle is heading, and labeled so they are never mistaken for features of this website.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers, including the uncomfortable ones about what a stock token is not.

What is a tokenized stock?+

A tokenized stock is a blockchain token that tracks a real share and is backed by that share held in custody. On Solana, the leading examples are SPL tokens: one token, one underlying share, tradable at any hour and divisible into fractions.

Is a stock token the same as owning the stock?+

No — and this site will keep saying so. A stock token is a tokenized instrument backed by a custodied share, held under an issuer's terms. It is not the share itself, does not put you on the company's shareholder register, and does not carry the full bundle of shareholder rights.

What is xStocks?+

xStocks is Backed Finance's product line of tokenized US stocks and ETFs on Solana. It launched on Solana on June 30, 2025 with around 60 tickers and has grown past 100 as of October 2026, per xStocks. Each token takes the underlying ticker plus an “x” — AAPLx, NVDAx, TSLAx, SPYx — and is backed 1:1 by the share in custody.

Why the “x” at the end of the ticker?+

To keep the token unmistakably distinct from the share. AAPL trades on a stock exchange; AAPLx is the tokenized version on Solana. The suffix is a safety feature as much as a brand — it marks which instrument you are actually holding.

When can stock tokens be traded?+

24/7. On-chain markets do not observe exchange hours, weekends or holidays. The trade-off: outside US market hours, books can be thinner and the token's price can drift from the share's last close until the underlying market reopens.

Who can buy stock tokens?+

It depends on where you live. The leading line is not available to users in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada or Australia, and venues apply their own eligibility checks on top. This site does not market stock tokens to US users.

Do holders get dividends or voting rights?+

Voting rights: generally no. Dividends: handled according to each product's issuance terms, which is why the terms are worth reading per ticker. Neither should be assumed to work like direct share ownership.

Where do stock tokens trade?+

For the leading line, reported venues include Kraken, Bybit and Gate, plus Solana DEXs. On-chain, they also appear in DeFi — for example as quote assets in Meteora pools. See the Markets page for the step-by-step.

Are the numbers on this site live?+

The market numbers are. Prices, 24h changes, 24h volumes and liquidity in the Markets table, the home stats strip and the ticker tape are fetched live when the page loads from the GeckoTerminal public API (Solana), with DexScreener as fallback, and the fetch time is shown next to them. If an API does not respond, the affected figures read “Unavailable” rather than falling back to old numbers. A few historical facts — the June 30, 2025 launch and the 100+ ticker count as of October 2026 — are reported figures, labeled with their source and date where they appear; they are not presented as live.

Is this the official xStocks website?+

No. This is an independent concept site that explains the tokenized stock category on Solana, following the structure and selling points of the category leader. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Backed Finance, xStocks, Kraken, Solana Labs or the Solana Foundation.

Does this site sell tokens or connect wallets?+

No. There is no wallet connection and nothing is for sale here. The single Buy button stays on this page while no contract address is published; the contract address box in the hero shows the unpublished state, and its Copy button will tell you exactly that. If an address is ever published through the site's official channel, the same box and button update automatically.

What are the main risks?+

The share's own market risk; thinner off-hours liquidity and reopen gaps; counterparty risk in the issuer–custodian chain that the 1:1 backing depends on; evolving regulation that can change availability; and copycat tokens trading on familiar tickers. The Regulation page walks through each one.
